Hello, I am Jim Elizondo from Real Wealth Ranching where our goal is to help you achieve maximum productivity while improving your land the fastest.

We need to realize that there is more than one way of doing or implementing to get the results we desire or need.

When we are managing living systems or environments along with the symbiosis between our livestock, the grassland, the soil life, and our economic needs, we should always remember this and not become dogmatic.

Following dogma will create the opposite of what we want or need.

We need to be creative and use our interpretation of what we observe in nature to help nature achieve the highest productivity, resiliency, and complexity which is what nature is always striving for.

In Real Wealth Ranching, we are very careful to not contradict nature as that would be very expensive and against our goals of creating a better environment with the help of livestock managed and bred correctly.

The birthing season plays a decisive part if we have adapted genetics that can use our natural forage flow throughout the year with higher conversion efficiency to saleable products. Isn’t that what we need? Higher productivity at a lower cost? That is precisely what we are achieving in many parts of the world by applying these universal principles.

Have you ever felt that there is more than what you are doing at your ranch or farm to improve today’s and the future's productivity?

Have you wondered why is it that the livestock genetics of around 60 to 80 years ago was easier to keep in good body condition than modern genetics?

I sure can see the difference by traveling and teaching my classes around the world.

Then, there is the matter of environmental degradation. The more one travels the world, the more convinced we will be that environment is degrading at a very fast pace worldwide. Besides that, livestock prices have not been in sync with input costs which means that livestock owners are struggling to make a profit. We all can relate to this as 50 years ago we could buy a new pickup truck by selling 11 finished steers whereas today we would need 33. 

Moaning and whining will not help us. What we can do is start enhancing what nature gives us for free, and that is sunlight, rainfall, and adapted genetics.

Today, I am going to describe what are the 4 pillars of Real Wealth Ranching and how, together, they will help you achieve spectacular results in environment productivity, resilience, biodiversity, and profitability.

We know that the higher the number of productive females we can maintain at a low cost per ranch or farm will determine our profits. We also know that the higher the number of productive females we can maintain, our forage productivity will be higher provided we follow a grazing program that avoids overgrazing.

Please remember the definition of overgrazing. Overgrazing happens when we allow our livestock to graze a plant before the plant has fully recovered from the previous grazing. The implications of this very simple definition of overgrazing are that any time you allow overgrazing, your plants' roots and vigor will diminish. We need strong and fat roots of our healthy, best species close together to form an efficient solar panel and hold the soil so it does not erode with wind or heavy rain. We address this very important pillar as the first pillar of the Total Grazing Program where we also stockpile large areas of the property to use in the difficult season of the year.

Then we need genetically determined nutritional adaptation which means genetics that do not lose body condition even at very high stocking rates under the total grazing program which creates high harvest efficiency without overgrazing even at very high stocking rates. That would be the 2nd pillar: Adapted Genetics and Selection Guidelines course.

We also plan considering the whole business, our optimum birthing season, to be able to efficiently convert our yearly forage production to saleable products. This would be our Optimum Birthing Season pillar, the third pillar.

The last pillar, the fourth, is Nutrition, where I explain, as a dairy nutritionist with over 20 years of experience, why we graze the way we do, and how to improve your livestock health to obtain a better conversion efficiency of the daily intake into saleable products. We also place great importance on soil health, spongy soil, low-cost biological methods which means we do all this in a beyond organic way.
Why beyond organic, because organic only means no chemicals while beyond organic would be in a regenerative way without affecting our ruminants' health by using grains, even though they would be organic.

After seeing the results in many places and different environments around the world, teaching these 4 pillars has become my passion.

Even though the universal principles I teach need to be tailored to a specific environment, they do remain true. Overgrazing is overgrazing in every environment. Adapted genetics with excellent nutritional adaptation will be required in every environment. The optimum birthing season will help you in any environment. And the nutrition side, to keep our livestock in best health, will be appreciated in any environment.

This means that when people say: that may work over there, but not here, we know it has to do more with the environment inside their head than with the physical environment where their livestock are grazing.

This is why I try to explain in a simple and easy-to-understand way, using all the material and technology I can to help as many producers as possible around the world.

If we all regenerate our land by correctly managing the grazing, birthing season, breeding for adaptation and productivity, and use our nutrition knowledge to attain optimal health in our livestock we can change the public opinion about livestock and farming in general.

In June (2023), I will be at a sustainable grazing conference in North Wales (UK) where producers are very interested in regenerating their environment to achieve much higher productivity now and in the future. More and more farmers are improving their land with adapted livestock!

We can only achieve this by following nature, reading nature,and never to contradict nature. If we do this correctly, we can change the world!

Conclusion and review:

1. When managing the symbiosis between livestock, grass, soil, and our economic needs, we know that there is more than one way of getting good results. We need to be creative and know how nature works to get the best results at the lowest cost by using biological methods.
2. The grazing program we use should allow a very high stocking rate without incurring overgrazing which is returning to re-graze a plant before its full recovery. The total grazing program is designed to do that while allowing you to maintain high-quality grass in the green season and a large in area stockpile or standing hay for the difficult season.
3. The Total Grazing Program along with the Adapted Genetics and Selection Guidelines will enhance new humus creation. As we know; humus is the stable fraction of organic matter that cannot be further degraded for a long time by microorganisms. We have been mining humus created a long time ago, we need to start creating more of it to improve our soil fertility.
4. Special genetics help much to achieve this type of grazing management without losing body condition at very high stocking rates which determines profitability and productivity. We address this in the Adapted Genetics with Selection Guidelines pillar.
5. In every environment, there is an optimum birthing season, which allows us to convert with higher efficiency our yearly grass productivity to saleable products.
6. The nutrition side is very important in maintaining the best health in our livestock. Good livestock health and nutritional adaptation means your livestock will be in good body condition even at the high stocking rates our economics demand.
7.  By implementing the 4 pillars of Real Wealth Ranching your land will improve year over year in health, biodiversity, wildlife, productivity, resilience, and value.
8. Remember to open your mind, as Einstein said: the mind is like a parachute, it doesn’t work when it's closed!

Results after implementing these 4 pillars are usually double stocking rate the first year with year-over-year improvement in productivity afterwards. We have students that have increased their stocking rate from 3 to five times higher.

Plants with fat, deep roots will give us fat, high humus soils, which will lead to better nutrition for our cattle, which will also be fat, and if we do it right, will result in a fat wallet!

Hoy les quiero presentar los 4 pilares de real wealth ranching, ganadería generadora de verdadera riqueza. Cada pilar funciona por sí solo, pero en conjunto aplicando los 4 viene una sinergia en donde la finca empieza a mejorar en su conjunto y como un organismo vivo con el dueño tomando las mejores decisiones y así mejorar en todos los aspectos y sin contradecir a la naturaleza!

Necesitamos darnos cuenta de que hay más de una forma de hacer o implementar las cosas para obtener los resultados que deseamos o necesitamos.

Cuando manejamos sistemas vivos de producción o entornos junto con la simbiosis que se da entre nuestro ganado, los pastizales, la vida del suelo y nuestras necesidades económicas, siempre debemos recordar que hay más de una manera de lograrlo y no volvernos dogmáticos.

Seguir un dogma creará lo contrario de lo que queremos o necesitamos.

Necesitamos ser creativos, usar nuestra interpretación de lo que observamos en la naturaleza para ayudarle a lograr la mayor productividad, resiliencia y complejidad, que es lo que la naturaleza siempre intenta lograr.

En la ganadería generadora de verdadera riqueza, tenemos mucho cuidado de no contradecir a la naturaleza, ya que eso sería muy costoso y contrario a nuestros objetivos de crear un mejor ambiente con la ayuda de un ganado manejado y seleccionado correctamente. La temporada de partos juega un papel decisivo si contamos con una genética adaptada que pueda utilizar nuestra disponibilidad de forraje a lo largo del año con una mayor eficiencia de conversión a productos vendibles.

¿No es eso lo que necesitamos? ¿Mayor productividad a menor costo? Eso es precisamente lo que estamos logrando en muchas partes del mundo al aplicar estos principios universales.

¿Alguna vez has sentido que hay más de lo que estás haciendo en tu finca para mejorar la productividad actual y futura?

Lo que podemos hacer es empezar a potenciar lo que la naturaleza nos da gratis.

Y eso es luz solar, lluvia y genética adaptada.

Hoy voy a describir cuáles son los 4 pilares de la ganadería generadora de verdadera riqueza y cómo, juntos, estos 4 pilares te ayudarán a lograr resultados espectaculares en productividad ambiental, resiliencia, biodiversidad y rentabilidad. Ya después construimos sobre estos 4 pilares!

Sabemos que cuanto mayor sea el número de hembras productivas que podamos mantener a un bajo costo por rancho o finca, mayores serán nuestras ganancias. También sabemos que cuanto mayor sea el número de hembras productivas que podamos mantener, nuestra productividad de forraje será mayor siempre y cuando sigamos un programa de pastoreo que evite el sobrepastoreo.

Recuerda la definición de sobrepastoreo.

El sobrepastoreo ocurre cuando permitimos que nuestro ganado vuelva a pastorear una planta antes de que la planta se haya recuperado por completo del pastoreo anterior.

Las implicaciones de esta definición muy simple de sobrepastoreo, son que cada vez que permitas el sobrepastoreo, las raíces y el vigor de tus mejores pastos disminuirán.

Necesitamos raíces fuertes y gordas de nuestras mejores especies sanas y muy juntas para formar un panel solar eficiente y sujetar el suelo para que no se erosione con el viento o la lluvia intensa.

Abordamos este pilar muy importante en el pilar del programa de pastoreo total donde también diferimos grandes áreas de la propiedad, como heno en pie, para usar en la temporada difícil del año.

Además necesitamos una adaptación nutricional determinada genéticamente en nuestro ganado, lo que significa una genética que no pierda la condición corporal a tasas de carga animal muy altas bajo el programa de pastoreo total que crea una alta eficiencia de cosecha sin sobrepastoreo. También debemos considerar todo el negocio, con nuestra temporada óptima de parto, para poder convertir de manera eficiente nuestra producción anual de forraje en productos vendibles. Este sería nuestro pilar de temporada óptima de parto.

El último pilar es la nutrición, donde explico, como nutricionista lechero con más de 20 años de experiencia, por qué pastorear de la forma en que lo hacemos y cómo mejorar la salud de tu ganado para obtener una mejor eficiencia de conversión de la ingesta diaria en productos vendibles.

También damos gran importancia a la salud del suelo, suelo esponjoso, métodos biológicos de bajo costo, lo que significa que hacemos todo esto de manera más allá de lo orgánico.

Por qué más allá de lo orgánico, porque orgánico solo significa que no hay productos químicos, mientras que más allá de lo orgánico sería regenerativo sin afectar negativamente la salud de nuestros rumiantes mediante el uso de granos, aunque sean orgánicos.

Después de ver los resultados de la aplicación de estos 4 pilares en muchos lugares y diferentes ambientes alrededor del mundo, enseñar estos 4 pilares se ha convertido en mi pasión.

Aunque los principios universales que enseñó deben adaptarse a tu ambiente específico, siguen siendo ciertos. El sobrepastoreo es sobrepastoreo en todos los ambientes

Si todos regeneramos nuestra tierra gestionando correctamente el pastoreo, la temporada de parto, la selección del ganado para la adaptación y la productividad, y utilizamos nuestros conocimientos de nutrición para lograr una salud óptima en nuestro ganado, podemos cambiar la opinión pública sobre la ganadería y la agricultura en general.

En junio estaré en una conferencia sobre pastoreo sostenible en el norte de Gales, donde los productores están muy interesados ​​en regenerar su ambiente para lograr una productividad mucho mayor ahora y en el futuro.

Solo podemos lograr esto siguiendo a la naturaleza, leyendo la naturaleza y nunca contradiciendo la naturaleza.

6.  El lado de la nutrición es muy importante para mantener la mejor salud en nuestro ganado. La buena salud del ganado y la adaptación nutricional significan que su ganado estará en buenas condiciones corporales incluso con las altas cargas animales que exige nuestra economía.
