Hello there, I am Jim Elizondo and I’m very happy to tell you some new things that may help you reach your goals.
Did you know that some of us communicate in certain ways while others have a different preferred method of communication? Yes, there are different languages when it comes to understanding something, we all view reality and outside inputs in a different way.
It is not that there is something wrong with us, it is simply the way our brain is wired or how we were taught to learn.
Why am I talking about this? Because for many of us, seeing is believing, right?
Well, I am going to take this a little further: There are people that learn visually, there are people who learn by language, and there are people who need to hear or see something, interiorize it, and then come up with their own conclusions. And then there are others that need to see, feel, smell, and touch to be convinced of something.
Me? I want to understand something before I embark on it, especially if it is something new or something that other supposedly knowledgeable persons dismiss without explanation. You see, I am very optimistic and always trying to find better ways of building or creating a new whole, and a profitable livestock farm is a new whole with many parts that need to be in harmony to function correctly.
This has led me to study my whole life, I started with cattle when I was 13 years old and have been in love with ranching my whole life. But later, I got an auxiliary accountant degree which helped me create new businesses and to be successful I had to learn many new things. Later I became a dairy nutritionist while managing my own grazed dairy in the tropics. This was a new challenge but it helped me to understand the livestock health component when grazing and why it is so important to graze the way we do in the Total Grazing Program.
Then, I was exposed to Bonsma teachings and improvements made by Johann Zietsman which opened my eyes to studying in depth how genetics can be used as a tool to improve the soil and grasslands. I started studying more and more, observing so as to not contradict nature which Johann continually warned about not doing. This was around 24 years ago, and since then I have made much progress.
Now, if you are the type of person who learns better by hearing and interacting with the teacher or if you prefer to see, smell, touch, walk, and hear to understand a new whole, like a successful and regenerating livestock farm, I would like to invite you to the onsite course "Profitable Grazing to Improve Your Land" (Increase Profits 300% with the 4 Pillars of Real Wealth Ranching) in Tallahassee Florida on June 21 and June 22, 2024. We will be in an air-conditioned classroom with field days and walks onsite to observe in practice what we learned in the classroom.
On this ranch, you will see up close calm, and docile cattle of a composite breed we are developing specifically adapted to that environment with its high heat index and low-quality Bahia grasses. Using Adapted Cattle allows an increase in the stocking rate which determines profits on a grazed livestock farm.
The land there is beautiful, with rolling hills, expansive views, and a multitude of huge live oaks in the pastures. But the soil was degraded and eroded, and we are regenerating it by increasing the long-lived soil organic carbon which was lost from a century of farming and which 17 years of rotational grazing had not improved much. Now, it is being regenerated faster with the four pillars of Real Wealth Ranching.
You will see the first Chinampas in the United States, which is a work in progress but it is already beautiful. Chinampas was the method used by the Aztecs to feed hundreds of thousands of people in what is now Mexico City in Central Mexico before white men came to America and is something that piques my interest.
You will also see that their cattle are only moved to a new break once a day, and they get good results in body condition in their livestock plus improvement of soil and grasses. They are also observing much more wildlife and diversity along with spongier soils.
Wouldn’t you like to have this happen on your land without extra costs? Plus, they are saving over $10,000 per year by using stockpiled grass instead of hay. You need to know that to save up to $300 per cow per year you need to stockpile grass and minimize overgrazing. Overgrazing is grazing grass when too young and is what shortens grassroots and lowers the vitality of your grass.
Having adapted and properly selected livestock means fewer problems for you, healthier livestock that can easily maintain their good body condition at a low cost. Witness how the optimal calving season is used in a difficult and hot environment where most people with unadapted cattle calve in the Winter when everything is brown and supplement needs, go up. We calve when the grass is green and plentiful because these cattle can breed back when it is hot and humid.
If you want expert guidance to explore these things with decades of hands-on experience this is your course for this year.
You will learn tailored strategies that will show you how to pick and breed livestock, the livestock that will do better in your specific environment. This cuts costs and boosts their health. By implementing the total grazing program you will maximize your resources which includes creating a stockpiled grass reserve to cut feed costs and improve your soil which will get spongier. Plan your optimal calving season to fit your unique local climate and forage flow, this will raise survival and calf growth, and allow you to increase your stocking rate which determines profits. Connect with fellow ranchers and experts who have had success doing this. You will leave the course with useful strategies, that you can use right away to start seeing results.
